The Dorrance - Providence Journal Food Section November 30, 2011

MENU FOR SUCCESS: The Dorrance has all the right ingredients to be Providence’s next great restaurant!
By GAIL CIAMPA JOURNAL FOOD EDITOR

For months and months, there was great anticipation in local food circles about the arrival of The Dorrance on the Providence dining and bar scene. Last month, when the doors finally swung open, or more accurately revolved, few could have imagined all the talent gathered inside.

Prepaid meter parking cards for $10 and $20 now available at five locations in Providence.

(Spanish translation here | En Espanol aqui)

The ProvPass parking meter card is now available at five locations in the City of Providence, making it easier for drivers to park in the city to do business and enjoy all that Providence has to offer.

The ProvPass smart card can be used to pay meters throughout the City, so drivers don’t need to carry quarters in their pockets. ProvPass is available in $10 and $20 denominations. Users swipe the card in the meter when they arrive and when they leave. The meter calculates the amount of time used and deducts the appropriate amount from the card.

The ProvPass, which is available for $10 and $20, can now be purchased in Providence City Hall at the Tax Collector’s Office, room 203, the Board of Licenses, room 101, the Municipal Court at the Public Safety Complex, 325 Washington Street, at the Traffic Engineer’s Office, 60 Ernest Street, and at AAA’s downtown Providence branch office at 55 Dorrance Street.

Once you know how, it’s easy to use ProvPass –

  1. Slide the card into the slot in the parking meter. Don’t remove the card quickly as you would with a bank card at the ATM; the card must stay in the slot.

  2. Wait for the meter to provide following information:
    - Amount of money on the card
    - Maximum allowable credit on the meter

  3. Once the meter has provided the above information, remove the card.

  4. When you return to the meter, reinsert the card and wait for the meter to provide the card with any remaining credit.

  5. Remove the card once credit is provided (if any time remained on the meter).
Please check out posted signs when you park in Providence to avoid being ticketed! The City of Providence has stepped up enforcement of its parking laws and is now issuing tickets to vehicles parked at expired parking meters or those that exceed posted curbside parking from Monday to Saturday, 8AM to 6PM.
